Kabul City

The problems of Kabul city and its impact on the lives of citizens.

The capital of Afghanistan is Kabul. It is the largest city in Afghanistan. Compared to other cities in Afghanistan, Kabul has the highest population. Most of the people in this city speak Dari, but some also speak Pashto. Apart from these two languages, some other languages are also spoken by people in this city. The area of this city is about 1028 square kilometers. The city is situated at an altitude of approximately 1791 meters above sea level. The weather in this city is very cold in winter. The population of this city is about 4.954 million. Which means 4819 people live per square kilometer. The population density of this city is equal to the population density of the major cities of the world. Some of the problems of this city are discussed below.

Traffic problem in Kabul city.

According to Kabul Traffic, in 2019, they had 1.35 million vehicles registered with them. Now in 2020, the number of these vehicles will be more than 1.5 million. About 60 percent of these vehicles still run on Kabul's roads. This means that the number of vehicles running on the roads of Kabul every day is about 900000. When the USA and its allies came to Afghanistan. So they improved the condition of the roads all over Afghanistan. Whose special attention was also on the streets of Kabul. Due to this, the roads of Kabul have been improved a lot. There are still many roads in Kabul that are often blocked due to traffic. Most of these vehicles run on diesel. If the average is set at three liters per vehicle. So the quantity reaches three million liters per day. Burning one liter of diesel produces 2.7 kg of carbon dioxide. Which means that around 80,000 tons of carbon dioxide is produced by cars and vehicles in Kabul alone. While a tree can absorb 10 to 40 kg of carbon dioxide in a year. Which means Kabul city needs several million trees. Just to eliminate the carbon dioxide produced by these vehicles.

Air pollution problem in Kabul city.

Air pollution is also a major problem in Kabul city. This problem often gets worse in winter. Because the winter in Kabul city is very cold. There is also no particularly environmentally friendly means of heating homes. So many people burn coal, old tires, and old shoes to keep their homes warm. All these sources add large amounts of carbon black and other toxic substances to the air. Apart from this, there are also a large number of vehicles running in the city of Kabul. Most of the vehicles run on diesel. All these sources also produce large amounts of carbon dioxide. Which causes severe damage to the environment. Because of the extreme cold and dirty air. Most of the elderly people of Kabul city are facing lung diseases. Due to which several deaths occur on an annual basis.

Garbage problem in Kabul city.

Garbage heaps are found in densely populated areas of Kabul city. These wastes also cause a bad smell. This garbage dump is also a major reason for the spread of flies in the city. Flies also cause widespread disease in the city. When flies sit on top of piles of garbage, various types of germs stick to their legs. Then these flies sit on human foods. which provide a means for germs to reach our foods. Sewage drains are often blocked due to these garbage dumps. After which the sewage water starts flowing on the roads. Which becomes a lot of trouble for the citizens.

Drinking water problem in Kabul city.

One of the major problems facing Kabul is drinking water. According to some data, only 30% of people in Kabul city have access to safe drinking water. Which means that 3.4678 million people do not have access to clean water. The US government and its many agencies have played an important role in providing clean water to Kabul city. Apart from this, the Afghan government and international organizations have also installed many such tube wells in Kabul city. There are few people in the city who have installed tube wheels. To provide water to the people. But despite all this, clean drinking water is not available to a large number of people in this city. Because there are no institutions in the city that can provide clean water to all citizens. Even in many schools and madrasas of the city, children do not have access to safe water. Due to non-availability of clean water, people suffer from various diseases. Which lead to a considerable increase in people's anxiety.

Building residential colonies on agricultural land.

Earlier there was a lot of land in or near Kabul city which was used for agriculture. Over time, people converted these agricultural lands into residential colonies. This caused two types of damage to the citizens of Kabul. From these lands fresh fruits and vegetables were obtained. They used to be available at cheap prices to the citizens of Kabul. Apart from this, the air of the city used to be clean due to their agricultural farms. Because plants reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the air and increase the amount of oxygen. Many citizens passed by farms and felt the pleasant atmosphere. Which included the fragrance of different plants and the beauty of different flowers. As agriculture disappeared from the city, people also lost all these blessings.

Lack of parks in Kabul city.

When any person lives outside the city. So there would have been an abundance of fields and gardens in the area. So there are plenty of places for them to have fun. So they also have a lot of space to move around. But on the contrary in cities all these are very limited. So, for this reason, the more the population of the cities, the more parks will be needed. There are a total of 65 parks in Kabul city. All these parks are functional. But they are very lacking in facilities. This means that there is one park in the city for 76 thousand people. In contrast, New York City has 1,700 parks. New York City has one park for every 11500 people. New York's parks are relatively larger in size than the parks in Kabul.

High population density.

The population density of Kabul city is also very high. The population of this city consists of approximately 4.954 million people. The area of this city is 1028 square kilometers. This means that 4819 people live in one square kilometer. This means that one square meter in the city is available for five people. The population density index is almost equal to that of Karachi, Lahore and Mumbai.

A marked reduction in the number of trees.

Due to the increase in population, there has been a marked decrease in the number of trees in the city. On a large scale, people cut down their gardens, which were replaced by roads and houses. Many battles have been fought in this city. Many trees have also been cut down by people for the purpose of burning.
